is home of the Cuchara Ski Area. Currently closed, there are talks of a
possible re-opening. The limitless recreation of the nearby San Isabel
National Forest provides camping, hiking, hunting and fishing
opportunities. Nearby Lathrop State Recreation Area provides water
activities, camping and golf. The “Highway of Legends” provides a great
scenic afternoon and is dotted with many interesting small towns and

have come and stayed forever. Colonel John Francisco, who visited the
valley in 1865, was quoted as saying the area was “paradise enough
for me”.
